People love riding their bikes, and it is up to you to make sure that you are always wearing the proper bicycle equipment gear so that no harm will occur in case an accident happens. You should be diligent in making sure that you are always equipped with the appropriate bicycle gear to avoid harming yourself. Remember, head trauma is one of the most dangerous biking results and so the most important piece of protection that you should always have with you is the bicycle helmet.
If you happen to be one of the owners of BMX bicycles, then you’d want to prefer BMX helmets. There are two types of bicycle a helmet which are available and have gone through a lot of safety inspections.
The hard shell BMX helmets are made with either tough fiberglass or a plastic outer shell which encases the polystyrene foam that cushions the head while absorbing the force of impact. The outer tough shell will protect the head from sharp objects that could penetrate through.
The soft shell BMX helmets do not have the tough outer shell, but still have polystyrene foam cushion which protect the head from impact in cases of accidents. This foam layer is thicker than the hard shell BMX helmets and is encased with a special coating or a cloth.
Both the hard and soft shell BMX helmets have passed the inspection by CSPC. So, it is only a matter of preference as well as the manner it is used when it comes to deciding which you would buy. The softer shell will obviously be a lighter option for you, while the hard shell is one that is more unwieldy. Hard shell BMX helmets are certainly more durable of these two, and would be the best for biking trips on streets and other hard terrains.
In shopping for BMX helmets, it is a must to ensure that the bicycle helmet is a proper fit to your head circumference. The helmet must be worn on top of the head, and the forehead should be encased by the bicycle helmet. BMX helmets that tip backwards from the head are doing nothing to protect you. So, make sure that the bicycle helmet fits snugly, and will not slide around. The chinstrap is essential with bicycle helmets since they will avoid the helmet from falling off or sliding around and obstructing the eyes. Choose a helmet that provides an adjustable foam pads on the inside.
